Lakers legend Robert Horry criticized Luka Doncic after his recent game against the Spurs, despite Doncic scoring 35 points and handing out 13 assists in the win.
Doncic attempted 27 shots but made only nine, including just four three-pointers. He struggled particularly in the third quarter, shooting 1-for-9 while the Lakers were outscored 37-28, allowing the Spurs to build a 12-point lead.
During that quarter, teammate Rui Hachimura, who had been effective earlier, had no shot attempts, while Doncic controlled the offense almost entirely, playing all but nine seconds in that period.
In the fourth, Doncic shared the ball more and created opportunities for Hachimura, who received four shot attempts. Both players made critical three-pointers late in the game.
Hachimura nailed one, assisted by Doncic, with 5:15 left to cut the Spurs' lead to two.
Doncic then hit arguably the game's biggest shot with 2:31 remaining, giving the Lakers a 113-112 lead they maintained to secure a 118-116 victory.
Though Doncic's offense showed flaws—reflected in his shooting struggles and four turnovers—he was near flawless defensively, especially against Defensive Player of the Year Victor Wembanyama.
Doncic emerged with five steals and two blocks, which drew plenty of praise all around.
Despite the criticism, his all-around impact contributed significantly to the Lakers' win.
Author's summary: Luka Doncic’s uneven shooting sparked critique from Lakers legend Robert Horry, yet his defensive dominance and crucial late-game plays powered the team to victory.
