Winter weather warnings for three states with 16 inches of snow to hit

Winter Weather Warnings for Alaska, Wyoming, and Washington

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued warnings for heavy snow and strong winds across parts of Alaska, Wyoming, and Washington. Up to 16 inches of snow and gusts reaching 40 mph are expected from Wednesday night through Friday morning, impacting travel and safety in these regions.

Snow and Wind Impact in Alaska

In Alaska, the Thompson Pass area is forecasted to receive approximately 9 inches of snow from Wednesday night until Thursday evening. The region will experience strong winds estimated at 40 mph, peaking early Thursday afternoon, which will cause blowing snow and severely reduce visibility to about half a mile or less.

“Surfaces could be icy and slippery, increasing your risk of a fall and injury,” the NWS warned residents in Alaska.

Conditions in Wyoming

The Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains in Wyoming are expected to get between 4 and 8 inches of snow, with the highest parts of the Tetons possibly receiving up to 12 inches from Wednesday night through Thursday afternoon. These snow amounts may disrupt travel and outdoor activities in the mountainous regions.

General Travel Hazards

Residents and travelers in affected states are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this winter weather event.
