Communities across Hamilton, Burlington, and Brantford are preparing to honor Remembrance Day, reflecting on the sacrifices made by those who have served. Several commemorative ceremonies and parades are scheduled in the coming days.
On Friday, November 7, at 11:30 a.m., a special ceremony will be held at the Battlefield House Museum and Park, located at 77 King Street West. The event will center around the Eagles Among Us Indigenous Monument.
“This service acknowledges and commemorates the contributions made by Indigenous veterans in service to Turtle Island,” the City of Hamilton stated in a news release.
After the ceremony, guests can enjoy light refreshments with Indigenous-inspired flavors. The city advises attendees to bring their own chairs, as seating will be limited.
The city’s garrison parade will take place on Sunday, November 9, starting at 10:15 a.m. and followed by a service at 10:45 a.m. The parade will include Hamilton veterans, garrison units, and cadet corps.
Participants will gather at the John Foote V.C. Armouries, then proceed south along James Street to Gore Park on King Street East, where the main service at Veteran’s Place will be held.
As Remembrance Day is a federal holiday, most federal offices, banks, and postal services will be closed on November 11. Residents are encouraged to attend local events or observe a moment of reflection.
