Hull is preparing to welcome the Betfred World Club Challenge in 2026, marking another major international sporting event for the city. The announcement has been met with excitement from local leaders and sports fans alike.
“After interest from Qatar, Australia, and other UK cities, we are delighted another world-class event is coming to Hull, with the prestigious Betfred World Club Challenge heading to the MKM Stadium.”
These words came from Councillor Mike Ross, Leader of Hull City Council, who emphasized the city's long-term vision of attracting major international competitions.
The MKM Stadium, a 25,000-seat community arena opened in 2002, was built with the purpose of hosting international events. That vision will be realized next February when Hull’s treble-winning Robins face the NRL champions, the Brisbane Broncos.
“Just like Hull KR’s recent homecoming celebrations, when 30,000 people lined the streets to celebrate, I’m sure the city will again be buzzing with civic pride and excitement to see world-class players and entertainment on our doorstep.”
Ross added that Hull looks forward to welcoming fans from across the country, as well as Broncos supporters traveling from the other side of the world. Visitors can expect a warm and friendly reception from what he called “the greatest rugby league city in the world.”
