Aimee Lou Wood shared how embodying her character Chelsea from the HBO series The White Lotus helped her face body dysmorphia during filming, in an interview with Harper's Bazaar.
The 31-year-old actress revealed that filming scenes in a bikini triggered body dysmorphia she had struggled with since her teenage years. The condition, as defined by the Mayo Clinic, involves obsessive thoughts about perceived flaws in appearance.
"I shook myself out of it by thinking, 'It’s not about whether Aimee wants to show her body or not – Chelsea does,'" Wood told Harper's Bazaar.
Wood explained that channeling Chelsea allowed her to overcome negative self-perception, turning the experience into a source of confidence.
Although she often needs time to detach from a role, Wood appreciates the personal growth that acting provides her.
