Free agent outfielder Leody Taveras is joining the Baltimore Orioles on a one-year deal worth $2 million, according to reports from Jon Heyman of the New York Post and Spanish broadcaster Mike Rodriguez.
The 27-year-old switch-hitting centerfielder played in 58 games this season with the Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers, posting a .205 batting average, three home runs, 17 RBIs, and a .530 OPS. He also stole nine bases in 12 attempts.
In 2024, Taveras appeared in 151 games for the Rangers, hitting .229 with 12 home runs, 44 RBIs, and a .641 OPS, while stealing 23 bases successfully out of 29 attempts.
Taveras did not play in the major leagues after June 7th this year. The Mariners optioned him to Triple-A Tacoma, where he excelled, batting .280 with an .804 OPS, 11 home runs, 69 RBIs, and 23 steals in 24 attempts.
The Orioles will need to clear a spot on their 40-man roster to accommodate Taveras.
