China regulator kept in dark over Qualcomm, Autotalks deal

China Regulator Unaware of Qualcomm, Autotalks Deal

China's antitrust watchdog, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), was not informed by Qualcomm about its acquisition of Autotalks, a V2X technology provider.

The SAMR revealed this information two days after announcing plans to launch an antitrust probe into the deal, which was completed in June 2025. The investigation will determine if the acquisition broke China's anti-monopoly laws.

Initially, in 2023, Qualcomm had struck a deal to buy the Israeli automotive chip company, and the SAMR had conducted an investigation, finding evidence that the tie-up could eliminate or restrict competition.

In March 2024, the SAMR submitted a written notice to Qualcomm, stating that it would need to approve the transaction. However, Qualcomm then informed the SAMR that it would not be proceeding with the deal.

No comment from Qualcomm.
