Nearly 600 customers in the Moss Park area have been without power since 8:11 a.m. on Wednesday due to an underground cable fault.
Toronto Hydro initially estimated power restoration around 8:30 a.m. Thursday but later updated the expected restoration time to 11:00 a.m.
Crews discovered that the outage was caused by a suspected third-party dig-in at an active construction site, which damaged Toronto Hydro’s infrastructure.
“This work is unrelated to Toronto Hydro but appears to have damaged our infrastructure.”
The repair process is described as complex and time-consuming, requiring crews to safely identify, fix, and test the damaged underground cable before restoring service.
“It involves safely identifying, repairing and testing the damaged infrastructure before we can return it to service.”
The utility reassures customers that teams are working hard to restore power and appreciates the patience during this prolonged outage.
“Rest assured, our teams are doing everything possible to get the lights back on as soon as they can. We know this prolonged outage has been difficult, and we truly appreciate your patience.”
The outage affecting Moss Park is due to third-party damage to underground cables, with complex repairs underway and power expected to return by late Thursday morning.
