Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has filed charges against a man she described as “completely drunk” who harassed her on Tuesday in Mexico City, calling the act “an assault on all women.”
The event occurred in a crowd where the man broke through people greeting Sheinbaum, then appeared to grope her, as shown in viral video footage. In the video, the man touches her breast and attempts to kiss her while bystanders in the Zócalo neighborhood watch.
The situation was stopped when one of Sheinbaum’s top aides, Juan José Ramírez Mendoza, intervened. The man was arrested overnight and is currently held at the Sex Crimes Investigation Unit, according to Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada.
