A new cross-border passenger railway linking Mohan Railway Station in Mengla County, Yunnan Province, with Boten Railway Station in Laos began trial operations on Monday, as reported by the Mengla County Integrated Media Center.
This is the first commuter-style international passenger rail service between China and Laos, running five round trips daily in both directions. The 16-kilometer route takes about 50 minutes, including stops at both countries’ border ports for boarding and customs procedures.
Xia Mo, deputy general manager of Yunnan Tourism Co. Ltd, stated that the company adheres to the philosophy of “safety, professionalism, and dedication” to ensure travelers feel “the convenience and warmth of this road of friendship.”
The new line connects directly to the larger China–Laos Railway, creating a seamless road–rail intermodal network for international passengers. According to the report, it is expected to further ease cross-border mobility and enhance regional connectivity.
The new China–Laos rail line marks a step toward closer regional ties and smoother passenger travel between the two nations.
