Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian fast bowler, received one demerit point from the International Cricket Council (ICC) for his "plane" send-off gesture directed at Haris Rauf during the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan.
"Jasprit Bumrah (India) accepted a charge under Article 2.21 for conduct that brings the game into disrepute and the proposed sanction of an official warning, which resulted in one demerit point. As he accepted the sanction, no formal hearing was required."
Rauf had earlier been criticized for making a "crashing plane" gesture during the Super 4 game between India and Pakistan, seemingly referencing the military conflict between the two nations. In the final's 18th over, Bumrah dismissed Rauf and repeated the send-off gesture, which drew ICC’s attention and led to the penalty.
Separately, Indian bowler Arshdeep Singh faced a hearing by ICC match referee Andy Pycroft regarding an alleged breach of conduct during the Super 4 match against Pakistan. The hearing concluded with Singh being found not guilty.
"Following a hearing conducted by ICC Match Referee Andy Pycroft: Arshdeep Singh (India) was found not guilty of an alleged breach of Article 2."
While Bumrah was sanctioned for an unsporting gesture reflecting the tense India-Pakistan rivalry, Arshdeep Singh was exonerated after an ICC investigation into his conduct.
The ICC’s actions highlight continued scrutiny on player conduct amid high-stakes India-Pakistan cricket conflicts, balancing disciplinary measures with fair hearings.
