Rick Stein, the beloved UK chef and TV personality, has become a familiar figure on Australia's east coast dining scene for over 15 years, almost like an unofficial Aussie resident. This summer, he plans to bring his renowned simple yet exceptional seafood to Sydney's Eastern Suburbs with a new 224-seat restaurant at the InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach.
Stein already owns two successful restaurants in NSW: Bannisters by the Sea in Mollymook, opened in 2009, and Bannisters Port Stephens, launched in 2018. For seven years, there was little indication of a new venue until the announcement earlier this year.
Stein shared insights on the secret behind his continued success in Australia. He explained,
“The truth of it is that the two Bannisters hotels and my restaurants were taken over by [investment management group] Salter Brothers in October last year. And that was a bit of a surprise. But actually starting to work with Salter Brothers, I realised how professional they were and how much I liked working with them.”
Unlike many celebrity chefs who attract only niche audiences, Rick Stein has won broad appreciation across age groups and demographics, thanks to his approachable style and dedication to quality seafood.
Author’s summary: Rick Stein continues to expand his Australian presence, combining his passion for seafood with strong new partnerships to enrich Sydney’s dining scene this summer.
