The first woman to govern Mexico has become a viral sensation on social media, especially among teenagers sharing memes, songs, and costumes inspired by her.
A teenage girl performs a reggaeton dance wearing a presidential sash and sporting a high ponytail, imitating Claudia Sheinbaum on TikTok. The video features the president’s voice promising,
“We’re going to build more high schools close to people’s homes.”
What started as a playful joke among friends quickly spread widely, spawning countless imitations, memes, songs, and costumes that made Sheinbaum a trending topic.
Sheinbaum is a serious scientist, a disciplined politician, and the successor of Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Beyond her high approval rating of 78% in the latest Enkroll survey for EL PAÍS and W Radio, she has gained a new kind of popularity—going viral online.
The original viral TikTok was created in Guadalajara by 17-year-old Silvana Pardo, a high school student who dressed as Sheinbaum for a school event. Wearing a white suit, presidential sash, and Sheinbaum's distinct ponytail, Silvana recorded herself dancing with friends dressed as historical figures like Miguel Hidalgo.
“I posted it thinking only my dad and grandma would see it,” Silvana recalls.
Claudia Sheinbaum’s mix of political credibility and viral social media presence has made her not only a respected leader but also a pop culture icon among Mexican youth.
