Qatar launch mega-money move to host World Club Challenge

Qatar's Bid to Host World Club Challenge Rejected

Organisers of the World Club Challenge received a lucrative seven-figure proposal from Qatar to host the prestigious match between the Super League and NRL champions. Despite the financial allure and Qatar’s strong interest, Hull KR and the Brisbane Broncos opted against relocating the event.

Decision to Stay in the UK

Both clubs reached a consensus to keep the competition in the United Kingdom, with plans underway for Hull KR to host the match in Hull next year. The decision echoes the enthusiasm seen after Wigan’s 2024 success against Penrith Panthers, which attracted a sell-out crowd.

Venue Options Under Review

The Robins intend to stage the game in Hull but have assessed other potential venues, including Leeds United’s Elland Road. Yet, the MKM Stadium—home of Hull FC—is emerging as the likely host ground.

CEO Paul Lakin stated that following their Grand Final victory, the club had seriously considered hosting the event at the MKM Stadium.

Scheduling and Logistics

Final arrangements are being fine-tuned, with optimism that the fixture will proceed smoothly. If held at the MKM Stadium, the match would occur midweek due to Hull City’s weekend home game, after which Rovers will travel to Las Vegas for their match against Leeds Rhinos at the Allegiant Stadium.

Author’s Summary

Despite Qatar’s substantial offer, Hull KR and Brisbane Broncos chose to keep the World Club Challenge in the UK, solidifying Hull as the favored venue for the 2025 edition.
