First and Last Bakery, LLC, based in Hartford, Connecticut, has issued a recall for specific tomato sauce products after a possible health concern was identified by the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection.
The sauces were distributed in Connecticut and Massachusetts through Big Y stores and possibly other retailers from September 22, 2025, through October 28, 2025. The products come in 26 FL OZ jars with various UPCs.
The recall was initiated because these sauces were produced without an approved scheduled process or evaluation confirming the adequacy of their production method. This oversight could allow the formation of the Clostridium botulinum toxin if conditions are unsafe.
“Botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning, may cause general weakness, dizziness, double vision, and difficulty speaking or swallowing,”
Officials also warned that breathing difficulties, abdominal distension, and constipation may occur in severe cases.
Production and sales of the sauces have been halted while the company ensures full regulatory compliance. No related illnesses have been reported to date.
