What’s Happening for Remembrance Day in Niagara-on-the-Lake

As Remembrance Day approaches, communities across Canada prepare to honour those who served and continue to serve in defense of the nation. In Niagara-on-the-Lake, this spirit of remembrance is visible throughout the town.

Poppies Across the Community

Local businesses are distributing poppies, which residents wear proudly to show their respect. Poppy displays have been set up at several landmarks, including the Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum, the Historic Court House, the RiverBrink Art Museum, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 124 on King Street.

Museum and Legion Initiatives

The Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum launched its poppy campaign in October, placing 75 wreaths around the heritage district. Al Howse, president of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 124, said members are hard at work preparing for the commemorative events.

“We accept donations at that time for our poppy trust fund to support veterans and their families,” said Howse.

The Legion’s annual poppy drive began on October 11, with volunteers distributing poppies across town. More than 200 businesses have poppies available, with thousands already handed out to residents and visitors.

Commemorative Events

Several remembrance ceremonies and events will take place throughout Niagara-on-the-Lake leading up to and on November 11, offering opportunities for the community to come together in reflection and gratitude.
