The UTSA Roadrunners, one of the newer FBS programs, began their football journey with a practice year in 2010 and their first full season as an FCS Independent in 2011. They joined the Western Athletic Conference in 2012, moved to Conference USA in 2013, and became full FBS members in 2014.
UTSA set NCAA modern startup program records in 2011 by drawing 56,743 fans to their inaugural game against Northeastern State and averaging 35,521 fans across six home games that season.
The Roadrunners made their first postseason appearance in the 2016 New Mexico Bowl, their sixth season. In 2017, they secured their first victory against a Big 12 Conference team, defeating Baylor 17-10.
