Jasmine Crockett, a Democratic congresswoman from Texas, is seriously thinking about running for the U.S. Senate. She shared this during an interview last week.
Speaking with Dasha Burns on Politico’s The Conversation, Crockett said,
“I’m seriously weighing it to the extent that I’m about to spend a lot of money to get data.”She emphasized her data-driven approach, adding,
“I personally believe that Texas needs to do something different if they wanted different results. That’s just the bottom line.”
No Democrat has won a Senate seat in Texas since 1988. Incumbent Senator John Cornyn is seeking reelection next year for a fifth term. Crockett highlighted the challenge, stating,
“I’mma be flat-out with you and tell you that I don’t think that there’s a Democrat that can take out Cornyn.”
She noted that the decision to run will likely come late, as success in the Democratic primary must be followed by victory in the general election.
Crockett claimed that the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) is investing heavily in Cornyn’s primary to secure his win. However, The National News Desk could not verify this claim, and the NRSC did not respond to inquiries about its spending before publication.
President Donald Trump recently announced a deal with Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk regarding some of their obesity drugs.
