Tom Morris, Channel 9’s chief footy reporter, has made a sensational switch to rival network Channel 7. The 34-year-old announced on Friday morning that he accepted a lucrative offer from Channel 7, according to Code Sports.
Both played a major role in successfully recruiting Morris, who will join a strong group of top footy talent at Channel 7.
Morris is not expected to take a leading on-air position, as Mitch Cleary remains Channel 7’s chief footy reporter. Alongside Cleary and Xander McGuire—also recently recruited from Nine—they will form a powerful reporting trio.
This move follows other significant acquisitions by Channel 7, including the recruitment of Kane Cornes from Nine before the 2024 AFL season.
"Morris is understood to have been convinced to jump ship due to Channel 7 having the broadcast rights to both the footy and cricket."
Morris had been with Channel 9 since January 2024.
