The Chris Waller-trained Equerry was sold in an Inglis Digital auction less than 24 hours after securing a win on Melbourne Cup day at Randwick. This three-year-old Snitzel colt, owned by a Coolmore-backed syndicate, was the highest-priced lot in the early November sale, fetching $340,000.
Originally purchased for $500,000 at the Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Equerry was bought by Hong Kong owner T Leung, who made his first solo purchase in Australia.
“He looks a very promising young horse that we think will fit in well up in Hong Kong,” said Leung. “We will sit down in coming days to work out a trainer and a program for him but I think he is a very exciting horse.”
Equerry has now won two out of four starts at Randwick, increasing his earnings to $121,000.
