After several days of efforts, crews have successfully stopped a gas leak in a marsh in Lafourche Parish, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The natural gas leak was first reported on Friday morning approximately three miles southeast of Golden Meadow. Response teams deployed thousands of feet of containment boom to prevent the spread of the sheen on the water.

Now that the leak has been stopped, the focus has shifted to cleanup and environmental monitoring. Federal and state workers remain on site to monitor air and water quality.

Coast Guard Lt. Joshua Turner said, "Responders will shift their focus to environmental cleanup."

A private company, Cudd Well Control, led the effort to stop the leak.
