Nandre Burger secured his first four-wicket haul during the second ODI between Pakistan and South Africa in Faisalabad in 2025. The left-arm pacer delivered his best bowling performance in international white-ball matches.
In just his 11th ODI, 30-year-old Burger dismantled Pakistan’s top-order early, claiming the wickets of Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, and Mohammad Rizwan within the first five overs. His initial burst reduced Pakistan to 22 for 3, setting the tone for the match.
“Burger’s opening spell helped reduce hosts Pakistan to 22 for 3.”
He returned later to dismiss Faheem Ashraf in the 47th over, his fourth wicket of the match. Though Pakistan recovered to 269/9, Burger’s efforts ensured the target was attainable for South Africa.
South Africa chased down the target with eight wickets remaining and nearly 10 overs to spare, securing a comfortable win in the second match of the three-game series.
“Lhuan-dre Pretorius with a 40-ball 46 and Burger’s four-wicket haul played key roles in the South Africa cricket team’s eight-wicket win over Pakistan.”
Burger’s 4/46 surpassed his previous best of 3/30, recorded in an ODI against India in December 2023, marking a new personal milestone.
Nandre Burger’s decisive four-wicket haul and Lhuan-dre Pretorius’s brisk 46 helped South Africa dominate Pakistan in the second ODI, reinforcing South Africa’s strong form in the series.
