Babe Seguin, president of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) local chapter 738, told Energeticcity.ca that the strikes since September have raised awareness about potential closures of rural post offices.
The Peace region postal workers initially held daily strikes, which have now changed to rotating strikes without losing the impact of their message, according to Seguin.
These offices had been protected by a moratorium that might be lifted due to proposed mail service cutbacks.
Canada Post’s media department stated that Lightbound has 45 days to propose a plan implementing federal government measures introduced in early September. The plan must focus on:
"Lightbound has been given 45 days to outline a plan to implement measures presented by the federal government in early September, prioritizing service while minimizing public impact."
