Lucy Liu has embraced a fresh look with a lob haircut, showcased in the trailer of her upcoming drama Rosemead. The former Charlie's Angels star sports a short, side-parted style that falls just above her collarbone.
Rosemead premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June and will be released in theaters on December 5. The drama follows Irene (played by Liu) and her son Joe (Lawrence Shou) as they navigate life after Joe's schizophrenia diagnosis.
The film is based on a 2017 Los Angeles Times article by Frank Shyong titled "A dying mother's plan: Buy a gun. Kill her son."
This role marks a significant shift for Liu, known for her lighter, action-driven work in shows and films like Ally McBeal, Watching the Detectives, and Why Women Kill.
“As there was not a lot that was known about this family, the script had to be pieced together,” Liu told Variety. “In some ways, it’s a little bit of a thriller, because people know the final act and some of the details, and then the rest had to be kind of filled in, in order to understand the dynamic between Irene and her son.”
At the Tribeca premiere, Liu also shared in an interview with Parade her enthusiasm for projects like this one.
Author's summary: Lucy Liu's new lob haircut accompanies her dramatic shift in roles, highlighting her starring turn in Rosemead, a poignant film exploring a mother-son relationship amid mental illness.
