Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt officially introduced the "Bangkok Solar City" initiative on November 8, 2025, representing a significant step toward transforming the capital into a cleaner, low-carbon metropolis.
The initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of solar technology across Bangkok. Governor Chadchart emphasized that the city’s strongest natural asset—sunlight—offers an abundant, renewable, and cost-free energy source capable of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
“Installing solar panels may seem complicated at first, but this guide will be an essential starting point,” said Chadchart.
As a major center for transport, commerce, and tourism, Bangkok faces growing pressure from increased energy use and carbon emissions. The “Bangkok Solar City” program addresses these issues by promoting solar rooftop systems to generate clean power and reduce fossil fuel dependency.
This project supports the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s (BMA) Net Zero policy and aligns with the Bangkok Master Plan 2021–2030, both of which target carbon neutrality and sustainable energy use. To encourage community involvement, the BMA has released a practical guidebook and an online platform to simplify the adoption process for households and businesses.
The “Bangkok Solar City” initiative, led by Governor Chadchart, advances solar energy adoption to reduce emissions and guide Bangkok toward a sustainable, carbon-neutral future.
