Brian Mackney, a veteran Canadian wrestler who competed for the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), has passed away at the age of 77.
Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling, a promotion where Mackney frequently competed, shared the sad news on Twitter:
“MAPLE LEAF PRO is saddened to hear of the passing today of ‘Silent’ Brian Mackney, a Maple Leaf Wrestling alumni and legend in Toronto. Mackney was more than a journeyman, who not only won the hearts of the Toronto fans in the 1970s and 1980s, but gained attention worldwide, competing in Japan with both New Japan Pro Wrestling and All-Japan Pro Wrestling. He also worked in various NWA territories, including Mid-Atlantic.
When the WWF took over Toronto, Silent Brian continued wrestling for Vince McMahon for several years. Remarkably, Brian Mackney achieved all of this as a deaf person, proving that his hearing impairment did not hold him back – he overcame it and accomplished what many could not. We were honored to have ‘Silent’ Brian attend our event at the former Maple Leaf Gardens this past May, and we are proud of his legacy in Maple Leaf Wrestling history. We send our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fans of the Silent Warrior during this time.”
We at eWrestlingNews.com join Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling and the wrestling community in offering our heartfelt sympathies to Brian Mackney’s family, friends, and fans.
Summary: Brian Mackney, a deaf wrestling legend known as "Silent," left a lasting legacy in Toronto and around the world, proving that determination surpasses all obstacles.
