Wicked: For Good premieres in theaters on Friday, November 21. The original Wicked movie, released in November 2024, quickly became a cultural phenomenon. It is based on the beloved Broadway musical and explores the friendship between Glinda (Ariana Grande), the Good Witch of the North, and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), the Wicked Witch of the West.
Although they were close friends and college roommates, a series of events drove them apart, turning them into the well-known adversaries.
At the end of Wicked, Elphaba and Glinda reach the Emerald City to seek help from the Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum). They want to stop the mysterious force that is stealing the voices of Ozian animals. However, the Wizard is revealed to be behind the chaos and tries to enlist Elphaba's help in his larger plans for Oz.
"Elphaba refuses and flees Oz, determined to save the animals on her own."
Glinda remains in Oz, seemingly gaining favor with the Wizard and the establishment by the film's conclusion.
The sequel, Wicked: For Good, will offer a new interpretation of the story's ending and answers to many unresolved questions. Fans of the Broadway musical may know the general outcome, but this film promises unique twists.
Wicked: One Wonderful Night is available to stream exclusively on Peacock.
Author's summary: The sequel Wicked: For Good continues the complex story of Glinda and Elphaba, promising fresh twists and a deeper look into their journey and Oz's mysteries.
