MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) announced on Sunday morning that Uwan has intensified into a super typhoon.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 5 has been raised over the Polillo Islands, several areas in Camarines Norte, and Catanduanes due to the expected life-threatening winds.
According to Pagasa’s latest bulletin, Uwan is sustaining maximum winds of 185 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching up to 230 kph.
The weather bureau reported that the typhoon was last located about 125 kilometers east-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, moving west-northwest at a speed of 25 kph.
“Signal No. 5 areas should brace for extreme, life-threatening conditions due to typhoon-force winds within the next twelve hours,” Pagasa warned.
Residents in affected provinces are urged to take all necessary precautions as the period from Sunday to Monday morning is expected to be the most critical.
