MOUNT VERNON — Life presents challenges to everyone, regardless of status, wealth, or fame. Wendell Brown considers helping others overcome these challenges a calling through the Tragedy into Triumph program. This three-night event is held at the R.R. Hodges Chapel and Fine Arts Center on the campus of Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
Mark Richt, former head football coach for the University of Georgia, now serves as an in-studio analyst for the ACC/ESPN Network. Over his 33-year coaching career, Richt spent 14 years at Georgia and an additional three years coaching the Miami Hurricanes.
Before addressing the audience, Richt shared insights about life and football:
“Things are not always going to go the way you want and there are things that are going to happen to you in life. Some of those things you cannot control, but you can control how you react to them.”
In May 2021, Richt was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, a battle he approaches with determination. Reflecting on his passion for football, he explained:
“The reason I love football is that it is tough. You are guaranteed to get knocked down, but you just have to get back up.”
His resilience both on and off the field exemplifies his approach to overcoming adversity.
