BBC Radio 5 Live launches daily politics podcast with Matt Chorley

BBC Radio 5 Live has announced a new daily podcast hosted by Matt Chorley, delivering lively political insight ahead of the Autumn Budget. The show, titled Matt Chorley’s Urgent Questions, will include key moments and highlights from his weekday 5 Live program, which airs from 2pm to 4pm.

Each 25-minute episode will mix interviews, humor, and analysis, giving listeners an engaging look into political life at Westminster and beyond. Since its debut last September, Chorley’s show has welcomed well-known guests such as Sir Keir Starmer, Boris Johnson, and Kemi Badenoch.

“I know that taking politics seriously doesn’t mean doing it boringly. Often it means doing politics without the politicians at all. The podcast will be packed with the best bits, the smartest bits, the funniest bits, and the bits that make you think ‘oh, so that’s why they do that’.”

Chorley also noted that his goal is not to tell listeners what to think but to help them better understand how politics truly functions—or sometimes fails to.

Matt Chorley’s Urgent Questions will be available on BBC Sounds every weekday starting 10 November, providing a smart daily digest of the major political stories shaping the UK.
