Travis Head has been released from Australia’s T20 International squad for the final two matches against India to play for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield, focusing on red-ball preparation ahead of the Ashes.
The decision allows Head, along with other senior players, to manage workloads and focus on fine-tuning their skills for the Ashes, starting November 21 in Perth.
Head is scheduled to play alongside Alex Carey for South Australia against Tasmania starting November 10. This will be his first first-class match since the West Indies tour in July and provides a chance to regain form after a quiet white-ball period.
"Head featured in the first three T20Is of the five-match series before being given the choice to either continue in the white-ball setup or return to domestic red-ball cricket. He opted for the latter."
Author's summary: Travis Head shifts focus from T20 internationals to Sheffield Shield cricket to prepare effectively for the Ashes, joining senior teammates prioritizing red-ball form.
