Toyota’s best-selling ute has been leaked online just hours before its official unveiling, showing a drastically updated new generation. Images shared on Instagram by bfmsoficial—originally from a video published before embargo by Auto Societies but later removed—preview the heavily updated HiLux expected to be revealed today.
The new HiLux retains the same platform and cabin structure from the A- to C-pillars as the current model. However, it features a completely redesigned front with slim headlights, a squared-off grille, and sharp, angular edges. The rear also adopts a tougher appearance, highlighted by a tailgate stamped with “TOYOTA”.

Several versions of the new HiLux have been photographed, including the 'Prerunner', 'Overland', '4Trex', and an expected electric model called the 'Travo-e'. All traditional variants are powered by a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, likely the same ‘1GD-FTV’ unit commonly used in Australian HiLux models.
"Excluding the electric HiLux, all other variants are powered by a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, believed to be a carry-over of the ‘1GD-FTV’ widely found in the Australian HiLux lineup."
Australian government approval documents have previously confirmed the 2.8-litre engine specification.
The upcoming Toyota HiLux showcases a significant facelift with modernized design cues and multiple variants, including an electric version, while retaining proven mechanical components from its predecessor.
