Idris Elba is reprising his role as detective John Luther in a new Netflix film that continues the dark, intense story originally created by Neil Cross for the BBC series. This upcoming thriller marks the return of Ruth Wilson, who played a fan-favorite character but was absent from the previous film, Luther: The Fallen Sun (2023).
Alongside Elba and Wilson, Dermot Crowley, a longtime cast member of the series, will also appear. The movie is directed by Jamie Payne, who has directed episodes of the show as well as the earlier film.
The story, written by Neil Cross, follows a new wave of brutal, apparently random murders striking London. Luther is secretly drawn back into service, facing the challenge of protecting the city while everyone seems to want him dead.
“Neil has yet again, created a wonderfully dark tale to bring us all back together,” said Jamie Payne. “It’s a true joy to be back on the streets of Lutherland with the supreme talents that are Idris Elba and Dermot Crowley. I am also thrilled to be reunited with the brilliant and dangerous Alice Morgan played by the extraordinarily talented Ruth Wilson.”
Luther originally aired during the 2010s over five seasons and focused on the intense and brooding detective John Luther, played by Idris Elba.
