Chief meteorologist at WEEK-TV, Chuck Collins, is set to retire on October 15 after 50 years of broadcasting to the Peoria and Bloomington-Normal TV market.
After five decades in the industry, Collins notes that connecting with the community is what he will miss the most. He expressed this sentiment in an interview on WGLT's Sound Ideas, stating:
The biggest thing I’m going to miss is talking to kids about weather. During the school year I would go to two or three schools a week talking to kids, especially grade school kids.
Collins often spoke at schools, typically to grades three through six, as part of their weather curriculum. He also gave talks at churches and other community gatherings, and sometimes even had impromptu conversations about weather with people he met in casual settings.
