Last year, Minnesota reported 70 measles cases, but this year the number was 0 until the recent cases. The Minnesota Department of Health stated that the children likely contracted measles from an unvaccinated adult.

In Mexico, a large ongoing measles outbreak has resulted in 22 deaths, with 4,879 confirmed cases reported through October 11, mostly in Chihuahua state.

The two newly reported cases involve unvaccinated children in Ramsey and Hennepin counties, both in the Twin Cities.
