Some in Galveston fear $54 million pump station grant is at risk

Concerns Over $54 Million Pump Station Grant in Galveston

Galveston officials are planning to construct a pump station at the corner of Bayou Shore and South Shore drives on English Bayou.

After delays due to easement access issues and utility provider coordination, construction is set to begin in November.

The city estimates construction will take up to 30 months, but with the November start date, they will only have 26 months to complete the project before a state-mandated deadline.

If the deadline is missed, the city will be required to return a $54.31 million grant awarded by the Texas General Land Office in May 2021.

The Texas General Land Office awarded the grant for the project in May 2021.
