Economic Development Officer Arrested for Aiding Bribery
An Economic Development Officer was arrested by the Bribery Commission (CIABOC) on charges of aiding and abetting the acceptance of a bribe.
- The officer is attached to the Niagama Divisional Secretariat.
- The bribe amount is Rs.25,000.
- The bribe was to facilitate the disbursement of a housing grant approved by the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA).
The suspect is accused of aiding the main suspect to accept the bribe.
The main suspect, Garusinghage Suranga Prasad Somasiri, a Housing Officer, was arrested by CIABOC on September 15, 2025.
The arrested Economic Development Officer is to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
