The Hythe ferry is no closer to returning to service despite the sale of its parent company.
The service, which connects Hythe and Southampton, has been out of action since August 2024, after engineers deemed the boarding pontoon unsafe.
The Hythe and Southampton Ferry Company requires £250,000 for a new pontoon as the existing one cannot be repaired.
Fresh hope for the ferry came with the news that investment firm Njord Partners had acquired Red Funnel.
However, a spokesperson for The Hythe and Southampton Ferry Company stated: "The Hythe and Southampton Ferry Company is a subsidiary of Red Funnel's operating company and continues to operate as a separate business.
Author's summary: Ferry service remains suspended despite new ownership.
