Byrd Announces Retirement as Upshur County DA
Upshur County District Attorney Billy Byrd has announced his intention to retire.
In a press statement, Byrd stated that his retirement is necessary before he can publicly announce plans to run for another elected office.
“It has been my honor and privilege to serve you as District Attorney and I will forever be grateful,”
“I can leave knowing the criminal justice system has forever been changed to make our county the best place to call home in the State of Texas.”
Byrd's first assistant, Barry Wallace, will take over the DA duties until the Governor appoints a replacement.
