Poynter Launches Public Editor Project in Indianapolis

The nonprofit Poynter Institute has announced a pilot project to establish a local public editor in Indianapolis, aiming to strengthen ethical journalism and audience trust.

Partner newsrooms will publish the editor's independent analysis of local news coverage, serving as a bridge between newsrooms and news consumers.

The project, led by Kelly McBride, has received grant funding from the Lumina Foundation and the Hearst Foundations, and is currently accepting applications for the Indianapolis Public Editor.

The project is designed to test the effectiveness of independent accountability and public education in a local news market.

Poynter is a leader in strengthening ethical journalism and audience trust for 50 years.
