Arizona Attorney General Threatens to Sue House Speaker

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is giving House Speaker Mike Johnson an ultimatum: schedule Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva's swearing-in ceremony within two days or face a lawsuit.

It has been three weeks since Grijalva was elected to represent Arizona's 7th Congressional District, yet she remains unsworn. In a letter to Johnson's office, Mayes threatened litigation if the oath of office ceremony is not scheduled by Thursday, prior to the end of the federal government shutdown.

Mayes announced that she was sending the letter during the official canvas of the Sept. 23 special election results.

This move comes as a procedural step in the election process, with Arizona Gov. involved in the official canvas.
