Maine Gov. Janet Mills has announced her entry into the crowded Democratic race to unseat Republican U.S. Senator Susan Collins.
Mills was reportedly recruited by Democratic Senate leaders after a high-profile confrontation with President Trump in February. The confrontation was over transgender athletes and triggered retaliatory moves by the Trump administration against the state.
"My life's work has prepared me for this fight and I'm ready to win,"
"This election will be a simple choice: Is Maine going to bow down or stand up? I know my answer."
In an interview, Mills described the interaction with Trump as a "jaw-dropping" moment that showcased his monarch-like aspirations.
