Pacific salmon have been spotted in the Quinsam River, marking the beginning of their return to rivers and streams across Vancouver Island.
The peak run is expected to take place later this October. The Pacific Salmon Foundation (PSF) has created an interactive Salmon Spotting map to help witness this migration and discover unique salmon spotting locations.
From late summer to early winter in B.C., Pacific salmon return to creeks, streams, and rivers to spawn. Born in freshwater rivers, they migrate to the ocean, spend several years feeding and growing, then return to their natal stream to reproduce and die.
The PSF’s Salmon Spotting map highlights the best public spots in the province to see this spectacle in the wild.
