Salmon Spawning Season in Greater Victoria
Salmon spotting season is underway across Vancouver Island, with the peak expected to hit later this month. Pacific salmon are returning home to rivers and streams after travelling thousands of kilometres.
According to the Pacific Salmon Foundation, salmon have already been spotted in Goldstream Provincial Park and in the Puntledge and Quinsam rivers.
“(This) is turning out to be a great year to spot salmon,”
said Michael Meneer, foundation president and CEO. He attributed the success to favourable ocean conditions and conservation efforts led by First Nations, streamkeepers, and grassroots groups across B.C.
