Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien has directed local authorities to review existing speed limits on roads in built-up and urban areas.
The review aims to implement lower speed limits, including 30 km/h speed limits in cities and towns, with the objective of having them operational by 31st March 2027.
This initiative aligns with Action 5 of the Government’s Road Safety Strategy Phase 2 Action Plan for 2025 to 2027, which aims to reduce deaths and serious injuries on roads by 50% by 2030.
