Spain Endures One of the Warmest Septembers Since 1961 Despite Dramatic Storms

September 2025 brought a striking mix of extremes to Spain, ending with intense storms that drenched the Mediterranean coast.

Despite the storms, it was overall one of the warmest Septembers in more than six decades, continuing the country’s pattern of record-breaking heat.

Record Temperatures Across the South

According to Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), the average temperature across mainland Spain in September was 19.7°C, around 0.6°C higher than the 1991–2020 average.

This makes it the 23rd warmest September since records began in 1961, and the tenth warmest of the 21st century.

The heat was far from evenly distributed.
