In the decades since June West Brandt's older brother was killed in World War II, she has never forgotten her kind and artistic sibling.
Brandt, 93, was delighted to discover that a Dutch couple, Lisa and Guido Meijers, regularly visit a marker for her brother at a Netherlands cemetery.
“It’s wonderful for me to know that someone is there,”
said Brandt, who lives near Houston. The introduction to the Meijers came through a new initiative aiming to connect family members of those buried and remembered at the World War II cemetery with Dutch people who have adopted each one.
The project seeks to increase the number of connections between Americans and the Dutch people honoring their relatives.
Author's summary: Americans connect with Dutch people honoring WWII relatives.
