Changes in the Middle East Conflict
Over the past seven months of war in the Middle East, significant developments have occurred. The war in Gaza had ended in January, but was later reopened and expanded under the Trump administration.
A ceasefire agreement was reached between Israel and Hamas in January 2025, during the last day of the Biden administration. President Joe Biden claimed credit for the agreement, stating
"This is the exact framework of the deal I proposed back in May". However, this ceasefire was short-lived, lasting only two months.
Seven months later, the Trump administration brokered a new ceasefire. President Donald Trump announced the ceasefire, declaring
"BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!"and attempting to credit his tariff policy for the truce. Despite their efforts to claim credit, both Biden and Trump deserve scrutiny for the prolonged violence.
The basic formula for the agreement has remained the same, raising questions about why a deal was not secured earlier.
