Government Verifies Newspaper Circulation Claims
The government has stated that it verifies the circulation claims of newspapers before providing them with advertisements.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said in the Lok Sabha that the Registrar of Newspapers for India gathers details on newspaper circulation.
The newspapers are being given advertisements only after their circulation claims are verified.
Rathore's Ministry has established categories and rules for newspaper advertisements and is conducting an impact assessment.
- 15% of advertisements go to small newspapers
- 35% go to medium newspapers
- 50% go to large newspapers
- 30% are in English
- 35% are in Hindi
- 35% are in vernacular languages
