Ireland's Presidential Election
Election day has arrived, with two candidates waiting to hear the results.
- Catherine Connolly cast her vote at Claddagh National School in Galway city, Co. Galway.
- Heather Humphreys voted with her daughter Eva and granddaughter Charlotte at Killeevan Central National School in Newbliss, Co Monaghan.
President Michael D Higgins and his wife Sabina also cast their votes.
Jim Gavin withdrew from the Presidential race but his name remains on the ballot.
Vote counting will begin on Saturday, 25 October, with results expected in the evening.
No confirmed date or time for the election results to be announced.
